Gavriil es la forma eslava oriental del nombre hebreo Gabriel, que significa "Dios es mi fortaleza". En las tradiciones judía, cristiana e islámica, Gabriel es el arcángel y mensajero divino que anunció los nacimientos de Juan el Bautista y Jesús.
