León es la forma española de Leo/León, del latín "leo" que significa león — el antiguo símbolo de valentía, realeza y fuerza. Llevado por trece papas (más famosamente León el Grande, quien se enfrentó a Atila) y enraizado en la geografía de España y México, León tiene profundas raíces culturales en el mundo hispanohablante.
