Ludmilla es un nombre femenino de origen eslavo, derivado de los elementos 'lyudŭ' (pueblo) y 'milŭ' (gracia, querida), con el significado de 'amada por el pueblo.' Su portadora más célebre fue Santa Ludmila de Bohemia (c. 860–921), primera mártir checa y patrona de Bohemia, quien educó a su nieto Wenceslao en la fe cristiana antes de ser martirizada. La grafía con doble 'l' es propia de la tradición polaca y algunos países eslavos del sur. Aunque menos frecuente hoy en día, Ludmilla conserva una herencia eslava noble y profundamente arraigada.
