Rustam es la forma turquica y centroasiatica del antiguo nombre persa Rostam, portador de uno de los legados heroicos mas celebres de la literatura universal. Rostam es el campeon supremo del Shahnameh (Libro de los Reyes), la monumental epopeya persa compuesta por Ferdowsi hacia el ano 1000 d. C. -- un guerrero invencible famoso por sus Siete Hazanas (el Haft Khan) y por el tragico duelo con su propio hijo Sohrab, historia que inspiro al poeta ingles Matthew Arnold a escribir Sohrab and Rustum (1853).
