Bahram est un prénom persan ancien dérivé de l'avestique Verethragna, signifiant 'porteur de victoire' ou 'vainqueur de la résistance.' Dans la tradition zoroastrienne, Verethragna était une puissante divinité de la victoire et de la guerre. Le nom fut porté par la dynastie sassanide — cinq rois le portèrent — dont le plus célèbre, Bahram V, surnommé Bahram Gur ('l'Âne Sauvage'). En astronomie persane, Bahram désigne la planète Mars. Il apparaît également dans le Shahnameh, l'épopée nationale persane de Ferdowsi.
