Finbar est un ancien prénom irlandais dérivé du gaélique Fionnbarra, signifiant « à la tête claire » — une combinaison de fionn (clair, blanc) et barr (sommet, tête). Il est surtout associé à saint Finbarr, le moine du VIe siècle dont le monastère sur les rives de la Lee est devenu la ville de Cork. Bien que peu répandu en dehors de l'Irlande et de sa diaspora, le nom porte un profond sentiment d'héritage celtique et d'identité gaélique.
