Kevan est une orthographe alternative de Kevin, du vieil irlandais Caoímhín signifiant « de naissance douce/belle ». Il se rattache à saint Kevin de Glendalough (c.498–618), le moine ermite dont la cité monastique dans les montagnes de Wicklow devint l'un des grands centres de pèlerinage de l'Irlande médiévale ; il est le patron de Dublin. L'orthographe Kevan confère au prénom un caractère légèrement plus archaïque, teinté de gaélique.
