Kurush est la forme du vieux perse de Cyrus — l'un des noms les plus marquants de l'Antiquité. Issu de racines iraniennes anciennes évoquant 'celui qui voit loin', 'semblable au soleil' ou 'jeune', le nom est indissociable de Cyrus le Grand (v. 600–530 av. J.-C.), fondateur de l'Empire achéménide et auteur du Cylindre de Cyrus, considéré comme la première charte des droits de l'homme de l'histoire. Dans la tradition zoroastrienne, le nom évoque la radiance solaire et la faveur divine. Tandis que la forme hellénisée Cyrus se répandait en Occident, Kurush et sa variante Kourosh ont survécu en Iran comme fiers emblèmes de l'identité persane pré-islamique.
