Trystan est une variante galloise et celtique du legendaire prenom Tristan, issu du vieux gallois Drystan et du brittonique Drustan, peut-etre derive d'un anthroponyme picte ou d'une racine celtique signifiant 'bruit' ou 'tumulte'. Le prenom est a jamais associe a l'une des plus grandes histoires d'amour de l'Europe medievale - Tristan et Yseult -, une romance tragique anterieure au cycle arthurien complet, transmise dans les traditions celtiques, francaises et germaniques des le XIIe siecle. L'orthographe galloise Trystan rapproche le prenom de ses racines celtiques originelles, le distinguant du Tristan d'influence francaise.
