Brayan is a modern phonetic adaptation of the ancient Irish name Brian, which derives from the Old Celtic element *brigonos, meaning "high" or "noble." The original Brian has deep roots in Irish history, most famously borne by Brian Boru (Briain Bóroimhe), the High King of Ireland who united the Irish clans and defeated the Vikings at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014.
