π About Gaia
Gaia (also spelled Gaea) is one of the most ancient names in Greek mythology, derived from a Proto-Indo-European root meaning "earth." In Hesiod's Theogony, Gaia is the primordial goddess who emerged from Chaos β the Earth itself, mother of Uranus and the Titans. The name gained modern resonance through James Lovelock's Gaia Hypothesis in the 1970s. In the US it rose from rank 690 in the 2010s to around 480 in the 2020s, and has entered the top 250 in Australia, reflecting a wider trend toward nature and mythology-inspired names.
