Casimir es un nombre masculino de profundas raíces eslavas, derivado del polaco antiguo 'Kazimierz', compuesto de 'kazić' (proclamar) y 'mir' (paz), con el significado de 'Proclamador de la paz'. Se difundió por la Europa católica gracias a san Casimiro de Polonia (1458–1484), santo patrón de Polonia y Lituania. En la Península Ibérica y América Latina se conoce la forma Casimiro.
