Casimir é um nome masculino de raízes eslavas profundas, derivado do polonês antigo 'Kazimierz', composto de 'kazić' (proclamar) e 'mir' (paz), significando 'Proclamador da paz'. O nome se espalhou pela Europa católica por meio de São Casimiro da Polônia (1458–1484), padroeiro da Polônia e da Lituânia. A forma ibérica Casemiro é amplamente usada em Portugal e no Brasil.
