Palma es un nombre femenino italiano y español del latín "palma" — el palmero y su rama, el símbolo supremo antiguo de victoria y triunfo. Los vencedores romanos recibían ramas de palma; el cristianismo adoptó la palma para el Domingo de Ramos (la entrada triunfal de Cristo en Jerusalén), haciendo de Palma un nombre tradicional para las niñas nacidas alrededor de esa fiesta. El día del nombre cae el 10 de abril. Palma también resuena a través de la impresionante ciudad de Palma de Mallorca y el pintor renacentista Palma Vecchio, uno de los grandes maestros del Cinquecento veneciano.
