Palma est un prénom féminin italien et espagnol du latin « palma » — le palmier et son rameau, le symbole suprême antique de victoire et de triomphe. Les vainqueurs romains recevaient des rameaux de palmier ; le christianisme adopta le palmier pour le Dimanche des Rameaux (l'entrée triomphale du Christ à Jérusalem), faisant de Palma un prénom traditionnel pour les filles nées autour de cette fête.
