Seraphim proviene del hebreo 'seraphim' (שְׂרָפִים), que significa 'los ardientes' — el orden más elevado de ángeles en la tradición abrahámica, descritos en la visión de Isaías como seres de seis alas y fuego divino que rodean el trono de Dios. Como nombre propio, Seraphim se ha usado principalmente en contextos cristianos ortodoxos, especialmente en las tradiciones rusa y de Europa del Este, donde tiene un profundo peso espiritual. El portador más famoso es San Serafín de Sarov (1754–1833), uno de los santos más venerados de la Iglesia Ortodoxa Rusa.
