📖 About Frédéric

Frédéric is the French form of Frederick, drawing on the Old High German elements "frid" (peace) and "ric" (ruler), a combination that has given rise to one of Europe's most enduring royal and aristocratic names. In France the name arrived with the Frankish nobility and gradually took on its distinctly Gallic accent and spelling. It enjoyed a remarkable surge of popularity in the second half of the 20th century: French records show it entering the top ten around 1966 and climbing to rank 2 in 1975, with over 15,000 boys named Frédéric that year alone. Its popularity then gently declined through the 1980s. Beyond statistics, Frédéric carries a slightly formal elegance and is most famously associated with the composer Frédéric Chopin.
