Alma tem dupla herança: vem do latim alma ("nutriente", "que dá vida") e é também a palavra portuguesa e espanhola para "alma". Popular no século XIX — em parte graças à Batalha do Alma em 1854 — o nome caiu em desuso e hoje vive um renascimento notável, figurando no top 10 da Espanha desde 2021 e alcançando o 6.º lugar na França em 2024.
