Noura é a forma feminina árabe de Nour/Nur (نور), que significa luz e radiosidade. Enraizado no sagrado conceito de iluminação divina central para a teologia islâmica, conecta-se com Ayat al-Nur (Alcorão 24:35) — "Allah é a Luz dos céus e da terra" — um dos versículos mais meditados do Alcorão. O Nur tornou-se um tema central do misticismo sufí através de poetas como Rumi. A terminação feminina -a dá a Noura sua identidade distinta, mais prevalente no Levante, no Norte da África e na Península Arábica.
