Tereza est la forme portugaise et tchèque/slovaque de Teresa, l'un des prénoms à la plus forte résonance spirituelle dans la tradition occidentale. Son origine est débattue : certains érudits le relient à Therasia, le nom grec de l'île de Théra (actuelle Santorin), tandis que d'autres le rattachent au grec 'therizo' (moissonner).
